On sunday the 22th March was the World Water Day 2015. SCI/riverjump and WWF YTAE celebrated this special day with an cold and colourful Big Jump!
Under the motto "Rivers know NO borders" 12 young river activts jumped into the the cold Modovara. On our bodies we wrote the words "river" and "water" in different languages.
To be honest it was more a running than the jumping but there have been lots of big stones and safty goes first. More important was the message. In the last century Modovara got straightened and the beautiful floodplains lost their connection to the river. Renaturation is difficult because the river is the border between Austria and Slovakia, the boarder is marked though stones on the bottom of the river. If the river moves freely, the stones would move too.
We won't accept that such a little bureauratically barrier hinders the river to flow freely and we suggest as a solution to use geographical boarders like most of the world does. For this reason and for all the rivers that can't flow free or get poluted we jumped today!
